The Mustard Seed Landscaping & Garden Center in Chaska, Minn., has taken another in many steps toward optimizing renewable energy and sustainable business practices. The newest addition, a 160-foot wind turbine, will be commissioned at a special event Thursday (July 14). The turbine will supply all electrical needs for the Garden Center.
The event, held in conjunction with the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce, begins at 3:30 p.m. with a Q & A session on renewable energy led by Shawn Dooling, president of Renewable Energy SD, followed by an Open House from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Dinner and refreshments will be served, and the celebration will conclude with the Commissioning at 6 p.m., featuring special guest speakers.
The Mustard Seed guests and employees will also be celebrating their recent awards: the "2011 Friend of the Environment" from the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association, the "2011 Partnership of the Year" from the Minnesota Environmental Initiative, and Mark Halla's selection to receive a "Horticultural Industries Leadership Award" from Garden Center Magazine.
The Mustard Seed was established in 2003 and is a full service landscape and garden center located on Highway 212 in Chaska. From onsite Raingardens to free field trips for children, a partnership with Grow.Eat.Share.'s community garden and the host of a farmer's market, The Mustard Seed is a great, green learning environment, all cleverly disguised as a successful business!
