Tips for transitioning into fall gardening

Help your customers keep gardens in shape when September brings football season and other distractions.

From the Shreveport Times:

Garden center customers who are both experienced gardeners and football enthusiasts know they have to make choices between these two interests as far as time for each is concerned. While there are numerous tasks that need to be accomplished in the yard, flower bed and vegetable garden in September, there is also a strong desire (and opportunities abound) to watch football games at several levels. This situation is particularly tough for persons who do regular work as they generally use weekends to perform their gardening tasks, but it’s also the time when the majority of football games are played.

For your consumers, It all boils down to the need to balance their time for work and their time for relaxation if they are to stay both physically strong and mentally alert. Whether they attend football games or watch them on TV, literally hours can be involved. And the same is true with gardening. Hours may be required to accomplish the necessary tasks in landscapes and gardens. Some adjustments can be made on the gardening side, however. One could downsize the number of flower beds they customarily plant or they can diminish the size of their vegetable garden along with planting fewer high maintenance crops.
