June was a busy month for news in the independent garden center industry. Between the ongoing petunia genetics investigation, studies by the Horticultural Research Institute and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, popular content from our June issue and other industry news, there was a lot for our readers to digest.

Readers also responded favorably to original stories of newer and lesser-known garden centers such as Tonkadale Greenhouse, which was recently taken over by a second-generation owner, and Shade Home and Garden, which opened for business on the former site of another retailer.
