Leading university professors will speak at the 2017 Western as part of the Western University education track. The Western Nursery & Landscape Association partners with Jason Griffin, Kansas State University, to coordinate the annual Western University education. Thanks to KAT Wholesale Outdoor for their continued sponsorship and support of Western University and the 2017 Western.
Western University education sessions will be:
So Many Trees and So Much Time - Dr. Jeff Iles, Iowa State University
We really do have hundreds, if not thousands of tree choices to consider when planning a new landscape or renovating an established one. But unfortunately, whether it’s out of habit or just plain convenience, we tend to rely on what we know. And in many cases, our decisions are neither creative or biologically sound. In this workshop we will investigate tree choices that might be slightly out of the ordinary, but certainly worthy of your consideration.
Water Use in the Landscape - How Efficient are We? - Dr. Cathie Lavis, Kansas State University
A great deal of time, effort, and dollars are spent irrigating our landscapes. Are we efficient
with the precious resource? Could we be more efficient? Come see where we are and how we improve.
Overachievers: The endless supply of new plants - Dr. Andy Pulte, University of Tennessee
This talk will help you sort through the endless stream of new plants on the market and focus on the important factors of personal style, and the mood you wish to create in your garden. We will talk about some of the most garden worthy plants, explore some gardening history, and get clued into what the scientific name of a plant can tell you about their garden worthiness.
F____ Bombs in Landscape Design - Kim Todd, University of Nebraska
What the…????!!!*&#% does THAT mean? Using the appropriate ‘F’ words in a creative and planned approach can impact both your approach to design and your clients’ understanding and attitudes about what will work for them and send them back to you for additional guidance.
The 2017 Western is January 19-20, 2017 in Kansas City, Mo. Registration is $50 per person (WNLA members). Registration, schedule, exhibitor list and other show information are online at wnla.org.
