Black Diamond Crapemyrtles, ‘Best Red’

Black Diamond is a revolutionary new series of crapemyrtles with black foliage and five flower colors to choose from, including ‘Best Red,’ pictured here. The black foliage emerges in early spring and lasts until leaves drop at the first hard frost. Planted in full sun, plants hold their stunning dark foliage color over the entire growing season, and bloom late spring through late fall. Plants are 10 to 12 feet tall, so the semi-dwarf, versatile shrubs are perfect for urban landscapes, small spaces and containers. J. Berry Nursery is currently distributing these plants to garden centers and hardware stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas, and Simpson Nurseries, who partners with J. Berry, distributes plants to garden centers in Florida, Nashville, Charlotte, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and Atlanta. Black Diamond grows differently depending on USDA Hardiness Zone: zones 2-5, annual; zone 6, perennial; zone 7-9, deciduous shrub/small tree. For more information, visit www.blackdiamondblooms.com.
